How to Dress Like Harry Styles

Harry Styles has undoubtedly defined his fashion style as... well...‘undefined’. Unique, eccentric and playful are some of the words that jump to mind when we think about the fashion looks Styles adapts. It is very difficult to categorise his fashion looks into neat boxes as eclecticism is at the heart of it all. The number one ‘rule’ is that he breaks all the rules, whether that’s blurring the lines of gender conformity or stipulating his own understanding of aesthetics. With the evolution of Styles’ styles, I bring you my interpretation of how to dress like Harry Styles. No matter what your gender identity is, this one is worth a read.

Careful Clash of Colours
From the outside, what seems like a candid and even random clashing of colours is in fact carefully curated. An easy way to re-create fun pairings of colours is to ditch what you know about monochromatic fashion styles and embrace complementary colours. Often Styles will pair two vibrant yet opposing colours, that break the all rules we learnt at Fashion 101 - to draw focus. Instead, he (and his stylists) cleverly ditch this theory and embrace vibrancy all over. No one piece is a 'statement', instead, everything comes together to make a statement. To get that eclectic look you don’t need to invest in high fashion brands, but in fact, can get creative with what you have. Those coloured jeans that you always wore with a black jumper? Get clashing, ditch the black and embrace bright colours.

The Power Suit
Suits have become the new power statement. Whilst the normative black and navy suits are losing their impact, Styles takes the meaning of monochrome to a whole new level. Rather than your beige, creams or grey suits, opt for a brighter palette like yellows, oranges and greens. Investing in a suit set is a smart move. Not only can you wear them as a set but mismatch with other casual pieces like jeans and skirts, or even prints.

Wide and High
A brilliant blend of the 70s wide-legged look and the 40s high waisted style equals a contemporary twist to any classic outfit ensemble. It’s fun, easy to put together and oh so comfortable. Long gone are the days of tight clothing or blood clotting skinny jeans, it’s time to get comfortable and fashionable (yes, both at the same time). I genuinely believe that the only way your wardrobe can be truly sustainable is when you invest in pieces that are comfortable because comfort equals longevity.

Accessorise Like No One’s Watching
Pearls, feather boa and over the top rings. These things on paper or even when said out loud sounds a bit… well mad. But, that is exactly why it works. It’s not about what you accessorise with but how you accessorise - there is only one way to do that and it’s confidence. The reason why we are all obsessing over Harry Styles’ eclectic and daring ensembles is not because they fit some high fashion criteria, or because he follows the best trends. It’s because he breaks the mould, and goes a bit mad. And does so, all very confidently.
